Guided Game Drives
Open-vehicle drives with qualified field guides — closer to the wildlife, and richer for the stories that come with them.

Safari Experiences
We don't run activities ourselves — but the reserve is rich with them. The Self-Drive Route lets you explore at your own pace, and local operators offer guided drives, walks and more.
Exploring the Self-Drive Route
Dinokeng's Self-Drive Route is the heart of a day in the reserve. More than 140 kilometres of tracks — most suitable for a sedan — wind through Big 5 country, past dams, wetlands and open veld. Take your time, stop whenever something catches your eye, and let the bush unfold on its own terms.
A self-drive map guide is available, packed with detailed routes, picnic spots, restaurants along the way and notes on the animals, birds and plants you'll meet.

Winding routes across the reserve, most suitable for a sedan vehicle.
Self-Drive Route permit purchased online or at the gates, in addition to conservation fees.
Bayethe, Dula Nokeng and Veldjierondom — braai stands and toilets provided.
Several restaurants scattered along the tracks — a welcome break mid-drive.
Other activities in the reserve
A handful of independent operators inside Dinokeng offer guided experiences you can book directly. Below are some examples of what's possible.
Open-vehicle drives with qualified field guides — closer to the wildlife, and richer for the stories that come with them.
Guided walks that read the smaller stories of the bush — tracks, plants, insects, birds.
First light on the reserve — the coolest hours, when the wildlife is at its most active.
Golden hour drives ending with sundowners on a quiet ridge as the sky turns copper.
Over 300 recorded species across wetland, riverine and thornveld habitats — plus dedicated hides along the route.
Slower drives, best-light routing, hide time — shaped around the shot you're after.
These experiences are offered by independent operators within the Dinokeng Reserve and must be booked directly with them. We're happy to point you in the right direction — just ask.
